"
I found CWI’s Workbook and planning templates to be very useful. These will be key tools for making recommendations to my administration in terms of important action steps, and in terms of documenting and evaluation our progress in integrating Service-learning. I also appreciated the clarity with which place-based education, service-learning and sustainability were linked.”

Moving Beyond the Walls in Los Angeles
By PAULA COHEN
paula cohen"At CWI's Summer WEST, I met like minded educators who could see beyond the limitations, who thought outside the box, who were willing to ask big questions and delve deep into the answers. It felt like coming home. When we talk about resiliency in young people, feeling like a part of something important and valuable is a crucial piece.
Our school has been going through many of the tumultuous transitions that all public schools are going through." read more

I remember the night before the first day of the Institute I could not sleep. I had gotten this anxious feeling, the feeling that one might get when they knew “something” was about to happen. I really did not know exactly what to expect. Honestly, what could really happen in just a week’s time? Well, I can now say that a lot can happen: inspiration; intensity; purpose; and transformation. read more

tucsonIn recent months we've been pleased to partner with the Quebec Provincial CLC Initiative, presenting the inaugural Quebec CWI Institute on Service-Learning. [photo at right] CWI faculty are working with educators from across Quebec province from the most rural regions to urban centers.
CWI also partnered with Arizona's Learn & Serve and Department of Education in putting together a statewide leadership training for educators, students, and Americorps. Over the past year we've been privileged to meet a fascinating group of teachers and students working on a host of innovative service and sustainability projects. [photo at left] In Oregon's Ashland District educators ispent several in-service days working with CWI to deepen their capacity to embed service-learning and sustainability within the curriculum. In Vermont, Summer Institute 2010we've worked recently with Grand Isle School District providing an inservice day on site, for this large rural district. Joined by our partner Shelburne Farms, we followed up on work begun by several adminstrators and teachers at CWI's Summer EAST Institute.

This year's highlights also included a quite amazing group of educators attending CWI's 2011 Summer EAST and WEST Institutes on Service-Learning. [photo at right] CWI's Institutes 2000-11 participants have come from many geographically and culturally diverse places, including the U.S, Canada, Thailand, Egypt, Columbia, Lebanon, and Bulgaria. more news
